We seem to heavily weigh the questions ” how do I as an individual have the power to change the world?” and sometimes it’s hard to believe concept that yes your sole action can have such an effect – and the magic in that question is we all truly have the magic to create a domino effect.
Did you know, around 200 species of animals die every day? This crisis needs to be looked at as a house on fire… literally! It’s a lot to take in… I know, because I feel the same way. But we can change all of this if we work together! More and more I see with my own eyes the beauty of people and brands coming as one to push the ball to a better place.
Plastic is not biodegradable. Every single plastic you use will last on the earth forever. It’s literally like an irreversible plaque, gross I know.
Travel Picks – When you’re on the go.
For my fellow travel friends! Y’all know I’m always on the road, plane, bike, islands. While I was traveling in Thailand at the beginning of the year, the one regret I had was not bringing plastic-free essentials with me. I can not even begin to talk about the amount of plastic I saw being used by the restaurants and street food vendors, it is complete madness – plastic being handed out like free air. And the sad part is that I’m not even exaggerating.
I think it’s extremely important as travelers entering into a new destination, to be respectful of the land and to bring your own plastic-free gear. Two brands I’m really excited to be packing with me on my next trip are Senda Essentials & Caye Life.
Senda Essentials is pretty dang rad. Create by travelers themselves, Carla & Hayden knew they had to provide a solution to other travelers to help provide essentials on every trip they go on! Including a bamboo lunch box, stainless steel water bottle, foldable bottle, cotton mesh bag, cotton tote bag, wooden cutlery set + a reusable straw and a cleaner (yew!!). I can count over 20 fingers including my all my toes the number of plastic items you could save on a one week trip with Senda Essentials.
Similar story to SE, Caye Life was created by Sarah and Andrew that noticed the amount of rubbish littering the beautiful coastlines and oceans. Your Caye Life stainless steel insulted mug isn’t only pimpin in tropical style, but it also keeps your drinks cold for 6 hours and hot beverages for 3 hours!! Say Sea Yea to plastic take away cups. Bring yourself a Caye Life with you on your next outing, I mean who the heck wants to be seeing a beach full of rubbish on your vacay?? no one – natural clean crystal blue beaches for me, please!
Beauty & Home Picks – When you doing self-care time.
Shampoo with a Purpose replaces 6 bottles of Shampoo and Conditioner with one… can I get a Hallelujah!!! I have can vouch for this hair bar that actually works with cleaning your hair and cleaning the environment at the same time. The packaging is made 100% ZERO waste and works as a shampoo & conditioner, two in one combo baby. So easy to use with a beautiful lather to keep your mane in fresh check. Let’s cut down some plastic in the shower!!
Gettin those sparkly pearlies clean with PearlBar, multi-award-winning activated-charcoal teeth whitening goodies!! With over 5 billion toothbrushes discarded into the environment each year, over 1,000 000 tonnes of plastic find their way into landfills and oceans, ughhh so gross!! To start your eco-friendly oral care collection, you need a bamboo Pearlbar toothbrush and biodegradable (yesssss!!) floss picks. Pearlbar also uses natural ingredients such as charcoal as their main ingredient which provides the safest and strongest whitening results.
Leveling up that eco princess warrior sunset skincare routine with Antipodes. It’s a tough one to find beauty products that are plastic-free, but even opting for brands that are making strides in their production process to help the environment is an awesome starter. I have been loving the Antipodes Halo Skin-Brightening Facial Mud Mask and the Aura Manuka Honey Mask in my skincare routine. Bonus besides these two gems because an absolute gift for your skin, your goods are wrapped in recyclable packaging and printed with eco ink! Oh – and you know that sensational Honey Mask on your face… it’s using their world-famous manuka honey from sustainable hives in New Zealand’s remotest locations. Happy Bees!! Make the swap and let’s clean up the planet.
Many swaps made in relation to home cleaning are effective in keeping plastic to the bare minimum. First off, simply by choosing brands that are minimalist and multi-purpose is a great start!! MoJe Essentials is a range of natural vegan skincare and cleaning products that take strides on being environmentally friendly and use fewer chemicals in our daily lives. I love using their dishwashing soap, made with organic ingredients and 100% pure essential oils for cleaning the dishes as well as adding a dash of this baby in hot water with white vinegar for a DIY floor cleaner. Their delicious body wash can be used as a multi-purpose cleaning solution & my favorite Moje Sweet Orange Peel Room Mist I use with my diffuser in replacement of essential oils as well as my Yoga Mat refresher! Their lip balms are packaged in biodegradable packaging which can be placed in the compost after use. Keeping them lips hydrated and plastic-free!
Rounding off the Beauty & Home picks has got to be a produce bags and bulk storage bags which you can bring with you grocery shopping. I got mine from The Last Bag which is super handy when I head off to bulk stores such as Terre Madre to stock up on my oats! Shopping at places like Terre Madre and The Source that actively showcase the reduction of plastic in their shops will help naturally reduce the amount of plastic you use! Another idea is to make your own Nutmilk with an Evereco Nut Milk bag 🙂
Fashion Picks – When you’re choosing your outfits.

The trainers are just the first step, Everlane is clearly en route to walking a zero-waste path taking fashion with a sustainable approach!!
Let’s hear it for Frank and Dolly, slow fashion sustainable makers with ethical ethos!! I think they completely nail it with making my journey into ethical fashion as seamless, stylish, and comfortable as possible. Slow fashion is an important concept to consider in your wardrobe. I love that each piece handmade by Frank and Dolly is timeless essentials to be worn every day. Feel good and look even better knowing your outfit is made Sweatshop-free and knowing exactly how your garments are made. Yup, I’m standing for transparent fashion industry with F + D.
Swim in the ocean, knowing your cute kini is made with minimal waste production with Minnow Bathers. I’m literally in shock that these insanely cute bathers are made with 78% recycled plastic!! *slow claps* Minnow takes into consideration their designing, producing, and shipping with the environment in mind. These brands taking the conscious effort in minimizing all waste should hands down be supported more often. What do you think??
The truth is, the world doesn’t know enough about the impact their clothing has on real people and the livelihood of our planet. The next time you shop, I encourage you to ask yourself, WHO made our clothes? I believe this simple question gets people thinking differently about what they wear.
