Raise your hands if you’ve ever experienced a period leak on your favorite skirt, maybe a surprising period leak on a white skirt, a pimple on the most obvious part of your face, a couple of uppercut punches in the stomach, and intense carb or chocolate cravings. Yes, I am raising both my hands.
During my time of the month, I’m extremely self-critical where I fall into massive waves of emotions, and what I really need is time for myself. To be present with myself and understand my body, mind, & cycle. Using this time that us women experience every single month and make it a time that is nurturing and loving instead of gruesome and horrible!
Now, what better to write this blog post as I’m period(ing) in a blanket burrito in bed and a heating pad on my belly after eating 2 bars of Loving Earth Chocolate? I’m laying here, and I’m thinking there MUST be things I can do to allow myself to feel better right now and then for the next 4 or 6 days of my cycle. In this blog post, I’ll be covering ALL period things. From my best hacks that have been serving me for many cycles, products that I have been using/trialing that are little self-love tools to make your period days smooth sailing, and routines and rituals I personally do during this moon phase.
Alright diving right in, let’s talk… PADS!!! I have been using pad’s all my life and still do. Not all pads have been a good time for me, you totally know what I’m talking about. Those horrible ones that don’t absorb any of your period juices and end up slipping off like water slip & slide getting all over your favorite pants and bed sheets – yep been there wayyyyy too many times than I would have liked.
There is DEFINITELY a difference when you are purchasing which kind of pads you are going to use and what I have realized is – you GET what you PAY. My go to? I’m currently obsessed with Bamboo Babe, plastic-free + eco-friendly pads that is great for the earth and amazing for your body. The name calls it, these pads are made from Bamboo which did you know is: 15% more absorbent than cotton, naturally hypoallergenic, & naturally antibacterial?? So much yeses to Bamboo pads for me.
You can get any sizes suitable for your period leakage in their range with Super & Night which is Absorbant and Long so you get that extra coverage when your sleeping or having a heavy flow, to Normal which is your original standard size pad for medium leakages, to liners which are perfect for light days. Bamboo Babe has quality with absorbancy. I have never had a problem with my blood flow doing a slip and slide out of my undies. They are also uber comfortable and pair so well with additional period undies such as MODI BODI & THINX for that extra protection when your out and about or fast asleep.
I haven’t used the cup before because the idea of it scared me a bit initially, but I’ve heard amazing things from my peers that use it and wanted to try it out and incorporate it into my lifestyle as I do love the concept of it reducing my consumption of plastic. Lunette Menstrual Cups provides safe & plastic free period cups. The most convenient, ecological and economical way to live with periods with its soft medicinal grade silicon (BPA & Chemical-Free) and is raved about by my roommate.
I had a chat with her last night and she said that ever since she used Lunette she would never use tampons again and how much of a game changer it was for her period!! Also mentioned she hardly EVER had to empty out her cup. Trying out new products can be admittedly scary but this transitional to trialing the menstrual cup in my eyes are worth the switch especially if it means reducing the use of plastic and leading a more sustainable lifestyle. It takes a couple of times of usage before you get the hang of it, so keep in mind to be patient with this product! (Note: If you’re interested in having me do a full blog review on my journey switching over to using Lunette, let me know!!)
Dabbling straight into period undies, this is my first time EVER using period undies and conclusion? I seriously wished I discovered them sooner because I would have saved about 175 pairs of my sexiest pairs of panties from the bin. I have a series leakage problem on my period. I’m heavy flow kinda gal and leak my bed almost 95% of the time – what can I say. I have tried EVERYTHING, from putting towels down on the bed to wearing x3 pads and arranging my undies the best way to try to not get them covered in blood annnnnnd, no luck. Period panties are your best friend because they can FINALLY put your anxiety to ease knowing that they are stain free. MODI BODI, voted the #1 Period Underwear for a reason, they give your body confidence and comfort when flowing and is completely leak-free. With lots of different flavor of styles, these luxurious undies are made to be even pee-free!!
Time to ditch the Jenga pad and liner ensemble before you sleep so you don’t leak!! THINX is your girl for period proofing yourself on your period. These multilayer reusable undies absorb your period and are a more sustainable solution! I love their activewear line which is perfect if you want to work out on your period without worrying.
And another option!! Vee Bamboo Underwear isn’t stain-free but it is 100% bamboo and anti-bacterial. I LOVE wearing these gems with a liner on my light days. These undies are so breathable, soft, comforting, and sexy. What I love about my period time panties with MobiBodi, THINX, and VEE is that they make me feel hot while I’m perioding. All three options are better for the planet and for you too!!! Totally the type of underwear you wear for yourself and feel like a warrior goddess.

Self-care rituals are so important for me during the time of the month. I look forward to the time I’m applying my skincare products and sipping on a warm cup of Seven Seas Tea, and fully present as I’m pampering myself. I love having a warm cup of handcrafted Egyptian Chamoille Tea an hour before bedtime to help soothe my irritations or pains and put me in the sleepy zone. It’s such a sacred time to physically take care of your skin. I love using Pathology’s masks to help target some problematic areas in my skin, especially their under eye + hydrating lip masks and warming hand treatment which is seriously amazing in the winter season.
Self-care to me, also means indulging. CHEEEyaaa!! What better way to eat your heart out in chocolate than with Loving Earth. I have major cravings before and during my period where I’m stuffing my face with chocolate and self screaming WHY AM I EATING SO MUCH CHOCOLATE AHHHH. and girl, you eat that chocolate – just eat the right ones that make you feel less guilty. Loving Earth has amazing vegan chocolate made with all natural ingredients that taste so delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt. My top picks as got to be there dark drinking chocolate, hazelnut spread and selection of chocolates made for healthy indulgence in a way that is good for the planet. Obviously everything in moderation, but Loving Earth is definitely my first pick in period indulging!
(Tip: Tea over Coffee. I personally love switching over to my selection of Seven Seas Tea, Chai or French Early Grey, in substitution to Coffee which I find helps to balance/ease my hormones)
Feeling like you need a bit of a release physically and emotionally? My favorite rituals to do is a Moon Salutation and light stretches on my Mukti Mat which is made with Bamboo fibers. On the mat, you can use this time as your space to care for your body mindfully in gentle ways and work with your cycle. If you’re looking to do some meditation & inner work, I would recommend Saged App which is an amazing tool filled with all things spirituality, community, practices, and guides – perfect for all stages in your journey. You can even find live sound bowl healing practices on this app!!

The last product I’d like to share with you in this post is iFertracker. I’ve been enlightened with natural fertility methods such as tracking my flow and discharge, journaling how I feel and all spectrums of my moods, and learning more about how my body operates. I believe it’s crucial for us women to understand ourselves throughout the highs and low dips that occur. Enter iFertracker. This little handy device is a wearable fertility tracker that helps women track their cycle more accurately and conveniently than ever. The iFertracker is synced to an app which you can download on your phone where it shows your Basal Body Temperature (that is tracked through wearing a sticker-like patch at night) which is the continuous core temperature while you sleep. Each morning when you wake up, you simply upload the previous night’s data via Bluetooth and our algorithm filters out events that have a thermal impact on your BBT. I’m so excited to try out this product and learn more about myself!! I might have a detailed blog post on this one so stay tuned.
Since I was a teen to my struggling adult perioding days, I too find it hard to cope sometimes… but I’ve learnt a lot of things during my 24 years as an empowering female is to love this part of ourselves and the moments we go through flowing. Instead of seeing this time of a month as a hinder to what you have to do, or a burden to your schedule, and instead, a time to appreciate your body, a time for self-reflection, a reminder of self-love and fully embodying the temple we have. Hope this blog post helped to find some inner & outer resolution to make your time of the month the best time of the month! See you next time xx
