Whether you are planning a long trip to Phuket Thailand, had a sudden layover in this tropical haven, or just looking to spend a couple days, I’d definitely recommend your stay at Proud Phuket not only for it’s traditional modern and insanely gorgeous rooms but also for a full itinerary worth of experiences that you can enjoy touching base on food, culture, nature, luxury, markets and more!
Proud Phuket
My first stop was at Proud Phuket. A lavishly classy boutique hotel located at the serene and tranquil Naiyang on the northwestern coast of the island. With its traditional Phuket architecture with a dreamy modern twist, this hotel is a must with its ever-growing space & list of offering to make the most of your stay in Phuket Thailand.
Getting off from the long haul flight, it was like an angel sent a gift to know that your oasis is only a 10-minute drive away, #blessed. Be welcomed and pampered with the Proud rooms and suites, beautifully designed in nature with a private pool and contemporary style furniture, your perfect place to settle in and relax. Catpure precious joyful moments on their outdoor swing and swim like a turtle like those that hatch on Naiyang beach!
The turtle’s you see branded around Proud Phuket is not only cute branding but a story of the childhoods of three children who have been taught to love and sustain the nature and culture of their homeland and to love and care for one another, to be modest and sufficient with what they have and to share with each other. The love for nature is shown of the blue waters nearby, nature emerged through the land and gardens you’ll see around Proud, and it is also a spiritual meaning as the children’s favorite animal, the Sea Turtle, that encourages us to take a break from our face paced lives and to find peace within ourselves and the journey up ahead. Read more of Proud’s story here.
In the intercom, I’ll take you through a day in Proud and how I create magical moments and memories in Phuket Thailand at this space:
7AM Early Morning Cultural Experience & Breky
Rise and shine with a mini morning tour organized by Proud where you are taken to a beautiful Thai temple nearby where you will experience first hand a cultural & spiritual praying with a monk. Offerings such as the rice and other Thai cuisine is provided by Proud to gift to the monk for the ceremony.
It is said that 20% local Thai people continuously come to the temples in the morning to pray and to give their offerings in food and water where they will manifest in prayers what they wish in their lives. Definitely an experience to visit a temple while in Phuket and learn more about the Thai Culture, beliefs, and spirituality.
After the culture tour, which is only 30 minutes, Proud will bring you back to the hotel for you to head on over to Yai Yai Kitchen for your complimentary breakfast buffet. Some serious food options you’ll find from Western to Thai to Indian to Vegetarian cuisines. I loved their Veggie corner with Samosas and their Rotti Bread was to die for!!
12PM Afternoon Tea Time
Ang Ku Teahouse, which is named after Phuket’s traditional celebration cakes, is your next stop. Their in-house cafe (meaning right next door to your room suite!!) is your tea time spot for chats, meetings, maybe some work time over tea, or bring a book for some reading! You’ll find a selection of high-quality blends of tea, coffees, pastries, organic salads, snacks, raw juices, and local yummies!
I would highly recommend ordering their signature Peranakan High Tea Set, perfect for two and even better for one (hehe), including a variety of desserts made in-house using their own farm fresh ingredients and a pot of delicious tea to go with your sweets. They put a very unique personal spin to traditional Thai desserts. I know you all love your Mango sticky rice pudding in Thailand, trust me I do too, but give it a break for a day and you gotta try the Proud Puff & Ang Ku’s. The Proud Puff is made with their farm-fresh pineapple as the inside sweet jelly inside a crispy and sweet pastry on the outside. The Ang Ku is a gelatin dessert which is known to be a common treat wayyyyy back in history which is why you don’t see much street vendors selling it as it’s a complicated one to create! Sip tea and dine your afternoon away at Ang Ku Teahouse before prepping yourself up for your next activity!
6PM Ocean Dips & Sunset Picnic
Head on out to Naiyang beach and get your daily dose of Vitamin D and much-needed ocean dips! Proud provides free Tuk Tuk rides (traditional Thai method of transportation) to the beach, though it’s only a 10-minute walk away or two-minute bike ride which you can also rent for free at the hotel.
As a beach bum on duty, always trying to find the most dreamy beaches to spend my days and sunsets at, I came to Phuket thinking that the best beaches would be away from the airport headed south. And I’d imagine that’s what a lot of people would think too. But Naiyang beach is an overlooked gem that so many end up missing on their trips. It’s undisturbed sand tops and waters with not much tourists make it a hit list in my books to visit.
Experience a Proud Phuket sunset picnic at the beach while munching on your choice of food while watching the sky change colors at sunset. I’d recommend organizing it around 30 minutes before sundown. Proud provides you with a bamboo towel, thai lunch boxes that your order a day in advance with the type of food you’d like (I went with the vegetarian nachos) and don’t forget to bring your camera to snap some photos and a notebook to jot down your thoughts, ideas, feelings, and inspiration as the sun sets to mark the end of the beautiful day.
8PM Local Market Shopping
The adventures aren’t just yet over at Proud! If you’ve still got some energy to spend and up for some market exploring, just around the corner of Proud about 5 minutes walk away, you’ll find a local market selling vintage clothes, food, kitchen essentials, souvenirs, and more!
This little market is one of a kind as you will definitely not see this one appear on the top trending search engines on Google. I have a soft spot when I travel for local experiences and this one is definitely not one to be missed! And you’ll be surprised by the Thai treasures you’ll find at this market.
